Ingerman Announces the Groundbreaking of Birchwood at Whiting July 26, 2017
Whiting, NJ – July 26, 2017 – Mayor Kenneth Palmer of Manchester Township, local officials and representatives from the NJHMFA joined Ingerman to celebrate the groundbreaking of Birchwood at Whiting, a senior affordable rental community located in Manchester Township, Ocean County, New Jersey.
Birchwood at Whiting, located on an 8.5 acre site on Route 70, west of Whiting Healthcare Center and northwest of Reserve of Lake Ridge. The community will feature a three-story building consisting of 76 affordable units for seniors (age 55+) and will offer a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments, including five (5) units set aside for special needs residents with developmental disabilities. Units will have Energy Star appliances, interiors will feature hardwood floors, oversized windows, and tile in the kitchen, foyer and baths. Kitchen amenities will include a full appliance package including a dishwasher and garbage disposal.
"HMFA provided the capital financing required to make Birchwood at Whiting possible by leveraging federal Sandy recovery dollars with our existing programs and financing,” said HMFA Executive Director Marchetta. “The result is a project that helps meet the challenge of affordable housing for seniors, as well as special needs residents.”
All rentals will be affordable to residents at or below 60% of Area Median Income (AMI). The area is close to the New Jersey Pinelands, and Route 70 provides easy access to retail, dining, and recreation facilities. Additionally, the building will feature a community lounge, fitness center, outdoor seating and gardens and a library. The will be full-time management on-site as well as and a supportive services office which will offer a host of resident service programs.
