New Rental Community Celebrates Opening in Annapolis
(ANNAPOLIS, Maryland) – MRK Partners and Housing Initiative Partnership, Inc. (HIP) celebrated the grand opening of The Willows at Forest Drive, a new 58-home affordable housing community that expands access to high-quality, affordable housing for families in Annapolis.
The development marks MRK Partners' first completed affordable housing community in Annapolis following the company's expansion into the Mid-Atlantic, reinforcing its long-term commitment to preserving and creating affordable housing throughout the region.
Serving households earning between 20% and 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI), the community helps address the region's growing need for affordable housing by providing high-quality, stable homes for working families in Annapolis. Located along Forest Drive, residents have convenient access to schools, grocery stores, parks, healthcare, employment opportunities, and public transportation.
The ground-up community includes 58 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments designed to meet the needs of families of varying sizes. Eleven homes are supported by Project-Based Vouchers, and five received HOME assistance through Anne Arundel County Development Services, providing deeper affordability for households with the greatest housing needs.
The community features three garden-style residential buildings surrounded by landscaped walkways, gardens, gathering spaces, a playground, and on-site parking. Built to LEED, ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction, and Zero Energy Ready Homes specifications, the development incorporates sustainable design and includes in-unit washers and dryers, spacious storage, three UFAS-accessible homes with roll-in showers, and two homes modified to accommodate households with hearing and vision impairments (HVI).
Beyond providing quality housing, The Willows at Forest Drive was designed to support long-term resident success. Residents will have access to a lounge, fitness room, dedicated resident services space, and programs that promote financial stability, education, health and wellness, and community engagement through MRK's resident services team.
